Written while groggy

June 19, 2009

Stumbling my way towards the finish line on this Friday morning, and in need of coffee, a nap, and a day’s worth of lazy downtime. And a decent pasta dish. Excuse me while I go grab a quick cuppa, and then I’ll blather on about this, that, and the other for a few minutes. All blog meta stuff, I imagine.

OK, then.

I’d like to finish over the weekend the little folktale that I started yesterday. Leaning toward simply adding pages onto that post rather than writing a new post for the continuation of the story; not sure why I’m leaning toward that choice, but there it is.

Back in the Waveflux days, I used an account at Blip.tv for my few podcasting-type needs. I was into the ‘podcast-as-show’ concept at the time; less so now. So I’m considering going a more conventional podcasting route, which would involve off-server media hosting (don’t need any potential bandwidth hit, thanks) and a plugin like Blubrry, maybe, to manage it. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around podcasting, for some reason.

Could you tell that I recently upgraded to WordPress 2.8 and Thesis 1.5.1? And during the same coffee break? No, you couldn’t, and that’s how it’s supposed to work.

This is as good a time and place to mention how pleased I am with the current blog layout and such. It does everything I really want it to and nothing I don’t. I toyed with the idea of implementing some flashy sliding DIVs and related gimcrackery, but decided against such add-ons as they ran counter to the simpler, content-oriented approach that I wanted. It’s an approach shared by Mr. Zeldman as he recently redesigned his own digs, which makes me feel good.

Mainly, the redesign is content focused. After so many years as a web designer, and after creative directing so many influential projects, I naturally considered doing a wide, three-column, ultra-modern design—something cool, detached, polished, and glowing with rich media and fancy-pants sliding-drawer JavaScript effects. Not that there’s anything wrong with those things. In the right circumstances, those things can rock hard. But this site is mainly about my writing.

Yeah, what he said.

And now I’m out of coffee. Damn.
