M and I spied a Can-Am Spyder RS roadster while taking Highway 40 in to work today. Arrgh. WANT. It was red. And ridden by (based on his t-shirt) a fireman. Ah, one of St. Louis’ finest. M suggested that I call our insurance agent to see what coverage would cost. Yes. Will do this.

Pretty sure that the reduced level of national pride on my part has less to do with the government – feckless as it has been – and more to do with the governed. That would be you, by the way. Happy Fourth.
Have finally had my right foot X-rayed per the unprecedented stubbing of the fourth toe a few days ago. Preliminary radiographic diagnosis: a nondisplaced fracture of the shaft of the proximal phalanx. Well. ‘Nondisplaced’ is always preferable to the alternative, of course. And at the very least, toe number four no longer sticks out to [...]
A couple of days ago, I disobeyed one of the prime diabetic directives: Don’t. Go. Barefoot.1 As a result, I’ve an appointment with my doc tomorrow to determine whether the toe I which I inevitably stubbed with overwhelming force (so much force, indeed, that it splayed out afterwards at a 30° angle) is actually fractured [...]

Those who know me can easily imagine my inward groan; Phil the Hermit hates visitors. Still, as I could easily be seen through the window in the front door, it was too late to feign absence. [...]
At Citygarden in St. Louis. (On my birthday back in March.)
You and I have known one another, through this blog and two before it, for some years now. Ours has been more than a cordial relationship; it’s been friendly. Warm, even. And yet, incredibly enough, I have never offered you a glimpse of my bare feet. Not even once. Well. Let’s remedy that, eh? There [...]
Back when I wore glasses: This picture dates from New Year’s Day 2010, when my Type Two diabetes was yet unchecked, blood sugar rampant, and vision hazy. Since then (as I have documented), things have changed for the better. The glasses – unworn for months – are in their case atop a kitchen cabinet.
A most awesome birthday present from dear friends H and E. Bettie Page playing cards! Deal me in! A different Bettie for each week of the year. We’ll start presenting them, one at a time, next week. Don’t let me forget.
