Cat Cora conundrum

Cat Cora's Classics cookbook

While awaiting my Bombay panini at Nadoz Cafe (Coronado), I browsed an issue of local foodie mag Sauce and found to my surprise that Iron Chef Catherine Cora is coming to St. Louis. Yay, I thought. Loves me some Cat Cora; I am still distressed over having missed a years-ago local appearance by her.

I read the ad for her event – a cooking demo from her new book, presented by Sauce and Left Bank Books, appearing at Moulin on Choteau Avenue – and then I skip down to the ticket price. Sixty-five bones. Ouch, I thought. Spendy! Granted, the price also includes a signed copy of the book.

Actually, I find myself with little choice here. Iron Chefs don’t often alight here in Flyover Central, the premise of the book – a retake on classic dishes – interests me, and I like Cat, so there it is. If I’m in town, I guess I’m going. Better check on my availability right away, the better to secure tickets. Foodies are like hill country bandits around here; given an opportunity, they pounce.

Note: If I’m to attend, I’ll have to take the day off from work. What a shame.

Another note: Ticket is purchased. w00t!

Hope you enjoyed your Bombay Panini at Nadoz Cafe.

I did indeed...mysterious stranger. :-)

And I'm pretty impressed that you HAVE a local foodie magazine.

And it's pretty well written, IMHO. I always come away from it inspired to cook more adventurously. It has also made me realize that the restaurant scene in St. Louis is much more varied than I would have guessed.

Sometimes you just have to let go of a little dough for what seems to be frivolity, but which will probably give you a warm glow for a long time to come.

I tell myself that when I think about the almost $1000 I spent to go to Atlanta to see Paul McCartney. My #2 son and I drove up and my daughter joined us from NC.

Worth every penny, and not just because of the music.

Have a good time!
