Back when I cared

June 11, 2009

bloggingI remember when I had big, big plans as a blogger, and an appalling level of ambition. Thousands of visitors a day, I envisioned. Tens of thousands, perhaps. A stratospheric ranking in the TTLB ecosystem – ‘Playful Primate’ at the very least, if not a ‘Higher Being.’ A Technorati ranking that would be the envy of all. And ad revenue – my God, how the money would roll in!

It is a great relief to have that illusion dispelled. Thank you, life, for freeing me.

That is all.

Note: This is not a ‘goodbye, cruel world’ post. I was just poking fun at my former blogging mind-set. Apologies to any who may have been misled.

See what happens when you try to be wry? Let this be a lesson to all.

Phil, I must admit that I, for one, quite enjoy your blog. I think it has a changed a good deal since I started reading -believe the KWMU/Patty Wente debacle was the impetus- I suspect you may not have the time to put into it that you use to or perhaps, wisely chose to redirect that time to more enjoyable pursuits...

I still my remember my waggish comment regarding one of you posts about people 'believing the end of the world was coming' and I replied with a reference to the Large Hadron Collider... I still get a chuckle out of that, guess I'm too easily amused at myself.

I hope it does not go away anytime soon....

Oh, no, Brian! This was all dry, wry humor, nothing more. Do not fear!

I may need to post a clarification...

I remember the Large Hadron Collider reference, which was clever indeed. :-)

Hi, Phil. You sound so glum. Don't be. I never had any thoughts of making money, which is a good thing since my Amazon store is not setting the world on fire.

Traffic does better steadily but if page views were all I cared about, I'd start a blog using disgusting Paula Deen-style recipes. I've discovered we Americans talk a good game when it comes to healthy eating and cooking, but there are a lot more people who want cardiac ward recipes than the real thing. And that's okay. I have much bigger things to worry about.

Thanks, ella...but don't worry, this was all written in wry. ;-)
